When I traveled to Pakistan to locate a reputable salt lamp supplier, I was astonished at what I found. The factories provided unsafe working conditions, offered few amenities to the workers, employed child laborers and paid very low wages. I also saw that these factories simply dumped their wastage into the environment, with little or no regard for natural spaces.   

As a company who promotes fair and equitable working conditions and holds the environment in high regard, Chi Evolution refuses to support salt lamp manufacturers who do not meet strict worker/environmental standards set forth by Chi Evolution. Chi Evolution refuses to employ child laborers, enforces a strict bill of workers rights, which includes safe and sanitary working conditions, adequate break facilities and fair wages. Environmental benchmarks are equally important. Our lamps are manufactured in an ISO-9001-2000 certified facilities. ISO standards contribute to making the development, manufacturing and supply of products and services more efficient, safer and cleaner. Additionally, no liquid discharge is produced as a bi-product in the salt lamp manufacture process. The facilities are also comprised of natural green spaces, which provide cleaner areas and support the environment.

The Story Behind the Business

David and Alysia Anderson launched Chi Evolution in August of 2003 at the San Francisco International Gift Fare. But the planning and hard work began months earlier in a little apartment in Portland, Oregon.

They had always been intrigued by the natural health market and had always fancied opening a new business venture in this expanding industry. David began searching for a product which would kick-start a business in the natural health market. After researching several types of organic, natural products, he noted many of these products were already prominently distributed through mass retailers or giant wholesalers. Rather than supplying a traditional, widely circulated product; David wanted something unique, innovative and fresh. The idea was born while on the phone with his family. David's Father mentioned that he had seen a really cool product while in Malaysia. A street peddler had sold him a Piece of Himalayan Salt to use on mosquito bites. Additionally, a street peddler enlightened him on their curative powers and the ability of these products to clean the air and improve the overall quality of an individual's health.

David was hooked and slowly began the meticulous process of researching these rare salt lamps. To his amazement they had yet to hit the U.S market. Rather skeptical and curious, David ordered a salt lamp from a Himalayan company in Pakistan. At first it was the aesthetic appeal that caught his attention but later something amazing began to happen. David's frequent migraines gradually stopped and eventually disappeared.

However, finding a quality supplier for these lamps became a nightmare. Many suppliers from Pakistan were advertising online with intentions of selling in the U.S. market. Unfortunately, most of these sellers were fraudulent or dishonest. The first order of salt lamps was of terrible quality and almost half were damaged and un-sellable. The future of owning a Salt Lamp business in the U.S. looked bleak. Just when David was on the verge of giving up on his wonderful idea, he met someone that could turn his idea into a reality. His name was Fayyaz and he had just started a business manufacturing salt lamps in Pakistan. He was honest, hardworking and his salt lamps were the very best in the market. He still remains our supplier and a truly great friend.

Next began the process and mode of exposing the U.S. market to these beautiful creations. This is where Alysia's innovative edge really launched Chi Evolution. She was able to successfully convey the simplistic beauty and the powerful properties of these unique Himalayan Lamps to the public at the San Francisco Gift Fare.

Her design at the fair included building a natural sanctuary using the individual salt lamps. It came complete with a resting bench for tired feet, complementary water for thirsty shoppers, plants to bring each customer back to nature and of course the tranquil healing energy of the salt lamps. It worked, customers came and went with each sharing a distinctive love for the lamps.

From there Chi Evolution was transformed from a simple idea into a great small business. The ultimate goal of Chi Evolution is to deliver high quality, life-improving Products at fair prices.
